Introduction to Saori Japanese Zen Weaving

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and channel your inner Zen with this 2-hour introduction to Saori weaving. In Zen vocabulary, sai translates to “everything has its own dignity,” and ori translates to “weaving—so fittingly, this contemporary Japanese weaving technique focuses on expressing oneself and embracing mistakes as opposed to following a machine-made pattern. Learn the basics of this weaving technique and walk away with your very own tapestry-size woven piece.

Join us at 11 am on the Upper East Side at Loop of the Loom, one of the only registered Saori weaving studios in the New York metropolitan area. You’ll get to draw from your personal inspiration, inner peace, and self-expression—in this class, there are truly no mistakes and it's never too late to learn! (Look no further than the founder of Saori weaving, Misao Jo, who started the craft when she was 57 years old.) Regardless of age, gender, intellectual aptitude, or disability, anyone can express their individual creativity in this beginner’s class. You'll have a pre-set loom waiting for you along with yarns from over 500 colorful and natural materials.
