On SUNDAYS in winter, everyone meets at 9:30 am at the Dock on Turtle Pond. The Dock is mid-park at about 79th street on the south side of the Great Lawn (and the north side of Turtle Pond)...and directly opposite Belvedere Castle. Nice bathrooms are nearby at Delacorte Theater (opens at about 7:30 am). Note: they are not meeting at the Boathouse Restaurant, because (a) the Boathouse is closed until March 2023 - and so are the bathrooms at that location; and (b) the Dock is a nicer and a more central place to begin the bird walk.
Sunday walks last about 2.5 hrs ...and a bit less if it starts to rain or is freezing cold, etc. But feel free to leave anytime - the guides don't take it personally. In winter, they've been seeing two owl species on every walk (Great Horned [2] and Barred [1]). Also, the abundant Tufted Titmice and Black-capped Chickadees - bring shelled UNSALTED (important) peanuts and you too will have these birds in your hand. Otherwise, for regular birders, this is the slow time of the year...for folks new to NYC or birding in eastern North America, there will be lots for you to see...and remember the people on the walk are half the fun!.
